Week 8 Reflection

Week 8 Assignment: Reflection

The perceptions of distance learning in 5-10 years would be more people taking online classes and using online training as a tool for corporate companies also. In 10-20 years, the think more brick and mortar schools will have traditional schooling as well as online classes.  There are schools that offer online classes but in their curriculum it’s only certain classes and not all classes. I also think that more high school, junior high and elementary schools would be offering online/distance learning classes for teens and kids in the future. The traditional learning would not go away because some people needs and is used to being in a classroom in order to stay focus by having the teacher tell them what to do and in a certain order. Some people have to be guided on a consistent basis.

I can be a proponent for improving societal perceptions of distance learning by introducing the students to more web 2.0 tools and training them on how to use the LMS/CMS in the future. The students need to know how to work on the LMS/CMS because that is where the students will have to navigate on when signing up for class. The LMS/CMS have the sections for used when in your class. Students need to learn how to use it because they have to keep up in the classroom and there are different activities that will be required to use the LMS/CMS. As a trainer, we have to expose the learners to anything that will help them in becoming comfortable with online learning and also let them know that is like being in a regular class except you don’t have a teacher physically in your presence, discussions are almost like chatting or emailing but there are deadlines and certain instructions for becoming successful in the discussions and etc.

I will be a positive force for continuous improvement in the field of distance education because in order to be a good influence, a person has to continually learn the new software that comes out and share it with co workers and students. The instructional design industry constantly changes and there are new programs being produced every day. In this industry, a person can become the go-to person for information that a very limited amount of people have researched to learn. The instructional designer has to keep being open with working with different people and also try to keep work organized. I will also give the students tips on the software I learned if possible and other software.

The idea of learning online could be scary to people that do not used the computer that often because they are used to the traditional classroom. I believe the act of navigating on a new website. Most people think that either all websites are the same or different. When people are not used to using different online websites, they are scared to try anything that doesn’t look similar to what they have been working on before the new sites. I would like to see how long and how far elearning/distance learning would go as far as education.
